I first met Joe in 1982, when he walked into my office at R & G Contracting on Mill St. in Littleton. Joe had heard that we were looking to move to a larger facility since our business had outgrown our current space. On behalf of the Indian Head Bank, Joe offered the land and buildings where the Littleton Senior Citizens Center is presently located. We purchased it. Over the years we have maintained a friendly relationship. Before his move to Westlake Ohio, I saw Joe every Tuesday and Thursday morning at the Littleton Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Center. Joe's class followed my Wife Georgia's class. I have the highest respect for Joe and feel honored that he respected me as well. Please accept our condolences regarding the loss of Joe. Our prayers are with Joe and his family.

Dear Audrey, Linda and family my prayers and thoughts go out to you all. I have loved Mr. Richard from the first day I worked for him at the Bank. He was like a mentor for me always had time to talk and give advice and I needed it! I am so grateful to have had him in my life. Thank you for sharing him with all of us.

I was so saddened to read of Mr Richard's passing. I still have and treasure the Lafayette commemorative plate he gave me when I left the bank. It is so special to me because he did that on his own. What a thoughtful, caring person. I so admired and respected him. My deepest sympathy to Audry and family.

I admired JR - tremendously so. My first meeting "Mr. Richard" was when, during my first day at the Littleton National Bank (in 1974), I was lifting a large tray of checks to a counter and as he walked into the bookkeeping department (now the second floor over the Northway Bank on Main St.) I proceeded to drop the tray and checks scattered everywhere. I was SO embarrassed. But he just smiled at me and left me to recover myself and the checks! When I tell stories of great customer service, I always tell about the time the Franconia branch of the bank was overwhelmed with the arrival of Franconia College students needing to open bank accounts. Dotty Belmore (may she RIP) was pleading for help from the Main office - Joe said, "I'll go - I can take their money and hand-write receipts." He never shied away from work - would never allow a phone to go unanswered if he walked by it ringing at an empty desk! To him, the customer always came first! In later years - after I left the bank (then Fleet and for reasons heavily steeped in my respect for the customer service ideals he and other managers of the Littleton National Bank, Lafayette National Bank and Indian Head Bank North embraced) and he was in his new business, he asked if I could train him on how to use his computer for word processing --- technology was not his strong suit! And, oh, that answering machine of his . . . what fun we had! JR is now with some of the most beloved bankers of "our day:" Bill Bromage, Loretta Silver (his right AND left hand at the bank), and Dotty! RIP Mr. Richard.

Joe was our family's banker and our friend. I have his painting of my Grandfather's sugar house on my bedroom wall. Sleep well.
