Janice Colby Slater, 92, Whitefield, died at the Morrison Nursing Home on Saturday, April 25, 2015 after a long period of failing health. She was born in Concord, NH in 1923 to Solon and Shirley (Paine) Colby. She grew up in the area with a sister and two brothers, graduating from Pembroke Academy in 1942. After graduation Jan lived in Meredith, NH where she had occasion to socialize with a young man from Boston who like to come up to the area to visit. The two courted for a time and on June 21, 1958 they married at the Meredith Baptist Church. Jan devoted the rest of her life to family and church. She was a dutiful wife, mother and grand-mother. She was an active member of the Meredith Baptist Church and served her community as a Girl Scout Leader. Jan enjoyed playing canasta, gardening and spending time with nature.
Jan is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert “Bob” Slater, a daughter, Shirley Cox and her husband Daniel, a grandson, Justin Cox and his wife Kadi, a grand-daughter, Courtney Dickerman and her husband AJ, a great-grandson, arriving in May, Colton Wyatte Dickerman, and a brother Solon Colby. She is predeased by a brother Jack Colby, a sister Carolyn Brouillette, and a nephew Bruce Brouillette. There will be a celebration of Jan's life on Friday, May 1st at 11AM at the Community Baptist Church, Jefferson Rd, Whitefield, NH 03598. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at Park St. Cemetery in Whitefield. Those who wish may make a donation in Jan's memory to Morrison Nursing Home, Residents Fund, 6 Terrace St. Whitefield, NH 03598.
