Welcome to the memorial page for

Francis Richard Sudol

July 30, 2015

Francis Richard Sudol passed away in Littleton Regional Healthcare on Thursday, July 30, 2015.

As he was called by friends and loved ones, Richard leaves behind his beloved bride, Bernadette of 63 beautiful years.  In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his five children: Michele Guttenberger, Janice Torino, Mark Sudol, Cathy Drury and Elizabeth Sudol.  He also leaves behind his 4 grandchildren: Jennifer Drury, Megan Drury, Nestor Roman II and Daniel Sudol.

Richard was born in1931 in Wallington, NJ to Frank and Nellie Sudol, as their only child.  In his earlier years, he enjoyed going to Coney Island and the New Jersey Shore with his parents. He enjoyed having Polish picnics and invited anyone who wanted to come and visit. In his free time, he liked to photograph and develop his own pictures. Despite the luck that ran in his family, Richard was never a gambler. He was a solid bet/ground type of man.

Richard was enlisted in the National Guard for 8 years. He graduated with an associate's degree from a school in New York City.  He was a Linotype operator for 18 years, and was able to switch to cold typing and then the computer. He worked for Hoffman La Roche for about 7 years, until he retired in 1994.

Throughout his life, Richard was a devout Roman Catholic.  He was a true Sunday-mass kind of man. After every Sunday mass, Richard enjoyed Lawrence Welk, a slap-stick comedy favorite.

Richard was very family oriented. He didn't want the day to come when he had to give his children up to marriage, but gladly did when the time came. He had a fond love for the family cat, Damian, who was with the family for 20 years.

Enjoying the mountains of New Hampshire, he and his wife eventually retired to their log cabin in Dalton.  Though he lived a few states away from his children and grandchildren, he always found time to visit them.  He especially loved playing around with his grandchildren.  Whenever he went back to New Jersey, Richard liked to take special trips to Rutt's Hut, a hot dog joint, and White Castles, the famed chain.

Throughout his entire life, Richard was an extremely strong individual.  Bernadette often referred to him as her "Superman" and the "Tarzan" to her "Jane." As his wife says, "To know him is to love him."
