William B. “Billy” Hesseltine, 79, formerly of Littleton, died peacefully on Thursday, October 30, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, Haverhill. Billy was born in Littleton the son of Merle and Nora (McCullough) Hesseltine.
He attended local schools and was a graduate of Littleton High School class of 1966. After high school Billy joined the US Army where is served in Germany as a cook. When he returned home, he lived on Grove Street until moving in with his sister Joan 12 years ago. He worked as a custodian for MacDonalds, Savers Bank, Laconia Bank, and retired from Littleton Middle School.
He enjoyed hiking on his own in the NH forest and Franconia Notch. He very much liked to travel and had been to Alaska several times. He rode rafts down the Colorado River on one of his adventures. He was a die-hard Yankees Fan as well as the Green Bay Packers. He was known for his generosity at Christmas with his family but always buying everyone the exact same thing. One Christmas everyone got fuzzy slippers, and all sat laughing and enjoying their slippers. Billy loved cats and was never without one. If one died, he would just adopt another one. He was a communicant of the St. Rose of Lima Parish. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his sister Joan Santy, Littleton, his brother Robert Hesseltine, Nashua, Nieces, nephews as well at greats and great-greats!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 15, 10:30 AM, at the St. Rose of Lima Church, with Father Ryan Amazeen officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery with Military Honors. Donations may be made in his memory to Second Chance Animal Rescue, 1517 Meadow Street, Littleton, NH, 03561.
