Steven Nelson Obituary

Steven L. Nelson, age 65, resident of Lyman, New Hampshire passed away Friday, May 31st at the scene of an accident on Lyman Rd. He was born December 20th 1958 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Sonja Simpson and Clifford Nelson. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. He had a lengthy career as an engineer at Draper Laboratories, Avidyne, and Lincoln Laboratories. He grew up in Oklahoma and eventually moved to East Cambridge MA, Allston MA, Everett MA, North Andover MA, and finally Lyman NH.

Steve is survived by his wife Andrea of 43 years, his son Mark Nelson and daughter-in-law Melanie Nelson, his daughter Karen West and son-in-law Colin West, and his son Gregory Nelson. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Richard Nelson, Jack Nelson, and Cora West. He is survived by his mother Sonja Narde of Oklahoma City OK, his brother Jay Nelson and sister-in-law Julie Nelson of Edmond OK, his sister Kerri Hudson and brother-in-law Paul Hudson of Oklahoma City OK. He is predeceased by his father Clifford Nelson of Grand Island NE, his brother Rodney Nelson of Oklahoma City OK, and his nephew Mike Paske of Oklahoma City OK.

Steve loved to golf, hike, work with his hands, play with his grandchildren, work out at the gym with his wife, and was fascinated by math and physics. He was at one time the New Hampshire Masters Division Drug-Free Powerlifters Champion in Bench Press. He was a man of honor, integrity, self-sufficiency, drive, and a source of stability to his community and family. He never made excuses, he knew the true value of hard work, and when doing that hard work, he always did it right.
