Stephanie Niznik Obituary

Stephanie Lynne Niznik was an American actress from Bangor, Maine, who was born May 20, 1967 and unexpectedly passed away June 23, 2019 at age 52. She first portrayed the Trill Starfleet Ensign Kell Perim in “Star Trek: Insurrection” and later the humanoid form of a Wraith in the Star Trek:Insurrection first season episode ”Rogue Planet”. Niznik was best known for her role as Caitlin Sweeney in four episodes of “Diagnosis:Murder” (1998) and her role as Nina Feeney throughout the run of “Everwood” (2002-2006). A listing of the many roles Stephanie starred in can be viewed at https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Stephanie_Niznik.

At an early age, it became clear that Stephanie had a passion for knowledge. She was a National Merit Scholar, an exchange student to Paris, class valedictorian, participated in the summer genetic research program at the Jackson Laboratory, received an early acceptance from Harvard but accepted the Angier B. Duke scholarship from Duke University where she intended to become a geneticist. Yet, in the amazing way that life changes courses, Stephanie decided to pursue another life-long dream – acting. After graduating magna cum laude from Duke University with degrees in theatre and the Russian Language, she pursued her masters of Fine Arts at Cal Arts where she began acting with roles in series including “Vanishing Son” and “Murder She Wrote”.

Stephanie was a beautiful being who brought joy wherever she went. She embraced life and found goodness and beauty in the smallest of moments. She showed her caring heart as a dedicated volunteer to many organizations with a special interest in those that devoted their time to addressing homeless veterans, hunger, children and animal rescue. She lived life with appreciation, tenderness, empathy, compassion, forgiveness and love.

Stephanie is survived by her mother Barbara Niznik and her stepfather Bob Fotter, her brother David Niznik and his wife Jackie, her niece Elizabeth Niznik, her twin nephews Andrew and Brian Niznik, her uncle Dan Raymo and his wife Marge, and her beloved dogs Nuke and Jake.

A Catholic Mass and Burial will be held for family and friends Sat. Sept. 28 at 11 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church with Rev. Father Mark Dollard officiating, followed by a grave-side Blessing at St. Rose Cemetery.
