Sister Annette Levasseur, also known as Sister Saint Elizabeth, Daughter of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 5, 2022, at Holy Cross Health Care Center, Manchester, NH. Sister Annette Levasseur was born on April 18, 1922, in Stoke Center, Quebec. She entered the Daughters of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on September 8, 1939, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and made her vows on August 12, 1941. This year Sister Annette would celebrate 81 years of religious profession.
Sister entered religious life on September 8, 1939, offering 83 years of her life to God. During her first 25 years of religious life, she served in various functions at Mount Assumption Institute, in Plattsburg, NY, at the retreat house of Villa La Salle in Quebec, and in Hudson, N.H., in schools at Saint Anne la Rochelle, Que., at Lenoxville, Que., at Newport, VT. and at Champlain, NY. In 1966 she was assigned to Colebrook, N.H., where she taught at Our Lady of Grace Academy supervising students, and various school activities, for 7 years. She loved to teach. When Our Lady of Grace Academy closed in 1973 she started a new ministry as a religious education coordinator at St. Brendon’s Parish where she dedicated 34 years of her life as a catechist, parish secretary, and answering various needs as they arrived. She was lovingly known there as Colebrook’s Sister. In December of 2007, she retired to Mount Sacred Heart in Littleton, N.H., and in March 2018, Sister was transferred to Holy Cross Health Care Center in Manchester, NH. The Daughters of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus extends special thanks to the Sisters and staff at Holy Cross, Manchester, NH, as well as the Sisters and staff of Mount Sacred Heart infirmary, Littleton, NH, for their love and concern for our Sister.
Sister Annette will be remembered for her faithfulness in prayer for all the intentions of her copious friends and peace In our troubled world. Sister had a special devotion to the Eucharist and Mother Mary. Sister Annette Levasseur is predeceased by her father, Adrien Levasseur of Lawrence, Massachusetts and her mother, Marie Breton of St. Anselme de Dorchester, Quebec, five sisters, Germaine (Levasseur)Dubois and Laura (Levasseur) Berard, of Magog, Quebec, Maria Levasseur, Ida Goudreau, Clara Boulet, fivee brothers, Louis, Ernest, Leo, Roland and Paul, and her aunt Sister Imelda Levasseur FCSCJ.
She is survived by a sister, Louise (Levasseur) Cloutier of Magog, Quebec, a sister-in-law, Isabelle Levasseur, along with several nieces and nephews.
A brief viewing will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, May 10, 2022, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St Brenden’s Church in Colebrook, NH. Burial will take place immediately after the Mass at St Brendan’s Cemetery in Colebrook, NH. Memorial donations in Sister Annette’s name may be addressed to the Daughters of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 226 Grove St. Littleton, NH 03561.
