Sandy C. Monroe, 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Littleton on April 17, 2025. She was born in Plainfield, NJ on April 16, 1935 and while still young, she and her family moved to New Tripoli, PA; they ran a 200 acre dairy farm for many years. The youngest of nine, Sandy graduated from Allentown Nursing School in 1954 and became a nurse at Allentown Hospital where she met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Monroe, M.D. They moved to Littleton, NH and were married on February 8, 1969.
She worked as an OR nurse for Littleton Regional Healthcare, and volunteered with the LRH Auxiliary for many years, continuing to do so after retiring from nursing. Her servant heart was evident in the numerous volunteer events she participated in at the hospital, including the following: the Fashion Show, The Dance on Top of Cannon, hosting the Auxiliary Membership Luncheon at their home, and decorating LRH for Christmas. As a member of the First United Methodist Church, she annually offered kitchen assistance for the Lenten Lunches. Her energy and creativity inspired many others to assist with her endeavors including her annually scheduled Christmas Caroling with local nursing homes, involving generations of carolers to spread the message of the wonder of Jesus’ birth to all.
Sandy had an eye for decorating, a green thumb for planting, and a love for hosting parties! During the winter months, she transformed their property into a cozy Christmas memory with their annual Open House that welcomed guests and featured homemade appetizers, cookies, and drinks with each room uniquely decorated to celebrate Christmas. In the spring and summer, friends and family were welcomed with a splash of color in their front field, checkered with daffodils, tulips, lupine, and lilacs; while the front and back decks displayed her expertly crafted potted annuals masterpieces.
Though farming was her upbringing, Sandy enjoyed basketball, softball, and bowling. As an adult, she participated in the Women’s Softball League in the 1980’s and learned how to downhill ski and play tennis in her 30’s and 40’s.
Sandy cherished her family the most. She frequently visited her family farm, organizing and feeding hundreds during the Chattin Family Reunion for decades, while pitching for its annual softball game. Her pride and joy were her two daughters, Christina and Lori. She and Dick never missed an athletic event and could be seen loudly cheering both girls on whether in the LHS gym or on the courts/fields, while also chaperoning class events. Later in life, they were loving, proud grandparents who eagerly attended events for them all. Sandy is predeceased by their son, Kevin, her parents, and her eight siblings. She is survived by her husband Richard, daughters Christina and Lori; and three grandchildren.
Sandy was an iconic woman who made everyone feel special and believed anything could be done. She was known for her outstanding work ethic, courage, unwavering determination, creative decorating, and compassion for her family, friends, and community. “If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” Romans 14:8
