Robert James Whitcomb passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Lafayette Nursing home in Franconia, NH. He was born in Littleton, NH on November 27, 1947, the son of Henry and Dorothy (Nute) Whitcomb. Bob spent most of his 74 years in Littleton, NH. He graduated valedictorian of his class. He then attended Plymouth State College, following that with a hitch in Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star. Upon his return to Littleton, he started his career at the Littleton Post Office where he worked himself up to a Rural Route Carrier position, a job he enjoyed for over 30 years. He most enjoyed the relationships he made with his customers. Most of Bob’s life was centered on his love of family, his home town and his community. He grew up with a love for skiing Cannon Mt and playing sports. He enjoyed time spent with many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. No one was more important and loved by Bob than his grandson Gavin. Bob was a huge part of Gavin’s interest and success in sports. Most of their time spent together was throwing, hitting, or catching a ball in the backyard. Bob had a deep interest in Littleton. He especially focused on the youth in town. He coached girls’ softball, with Jim Ramsey and Gary Melanson, for over 30 years. He was an active Park commissioner for many years and a recent member of the Friends of Remich Park. He took great interest in the maintenance and updating of the Park. His last favorite project was a new playground. He was predeceased by his wife Marion (Tattersal)Whitcomb, parents Dorothy and Henry Whitcomb, and beloved brother Gary Whitcomb, who died in 1959 at 20 years old in a single-car accident.
Bob is survived by his children Tess Whitcomb and Lisa Robinson, and his grandson Gavin James Silva. He is survived by his brother Bryan Whitcomb, sister-in-law Sue and sister Susan Sliwoski.
