Raymond Emerson Obituary

Raymond Louis Emerson, 84, Dodge Pond Road, died Wednesday, March 31, at the Littleton Regional Hospital. Raymond was born in Laconia the son of Louis and Gertrude (Sweet) Emerson. He attended school at Lincoln Public School, Lincoln, NH. At 17 years old he worked on the original building of the Moore Dam. After that he started working at the Franconia Paper Mill in Lincoln while still a teenager. He worked there for 25 years until it’s closing. During that 25 years he had moved up the ladder to be the Superintendent of Paper. After the closure of the mill in Lincoln he founded Ray’s Snowmobile in Woodstock, NH and worked doing repairs on all types of vehicles until a job offer sent him and Betty Ann to Pejepscot, Maine. For 10 years he was Superintendent of Paper at Pejepscot Paper until a flood forced the closer of that paper mill. After that he and Betty Ann moved back to New Hampshire and settled at their long-time camp on Dodge Pond in Lyman. He then worked 10 years at New England Wire in Lisbon until his retirement, almost 20 years ago.

Ray was an avid sports fan in retirement always keeping close tabs on his Red Sox and Celtics. He enjoyed going to the races (Especially Thunder Road) and for a while worked on race cars. He loved fishing. In his younger years he did a lot of ice fishing and in later years he was a regular spring visitor to Big Squam Lake and Winnipesaukee trolling for (and catching) Salmon and Lakers. In the Maine years he loved Sebago Lake and Fishing for Blues off the coast of Maine. He spent many a day on the Connecticut River and the local ponds. He never missed a NASCAR race on TV and his favorite drivers always drove Fords. He loved playing Poker and Cribbage. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his brother Ronnie Emerson, Lincoln, NH.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty Ann (Santy), Lyman, two sons Steven, Gorham, NH, Roger and wife Debbie, Littleton, NH, a brother Thomas “Skipper” and wife Linda, Plant City, FL, grandchildren Jesse and wife Kylee, Littleton, Tristan and his wife Jill, Madison, NH, Nicholas, Gorham, NH, 5 great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be no services. Donations can be made in Raymond's name to Norris Cotton Cancer Center, DHMC, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03766.
