Maurice “Moe” Howland, 57, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022, surrounded by immediate family following a medical emergency. Moe, born in Brockton MA, was the son of Gloria and Roy Howland. Moe married the love of his life, Susan, on March 5, 1988. Together they raised 5 daughters in Colebrook, NH. Moe spent his career as a Kitchen Steward, working many years at both The Balsams Grand Resort Hotel and The Omni Mt Washington Hotel where he developed many lifelong friendships. Most recently, while employed at the Omni Mt Washington he worked his way up and was promoted to Assistant Executive Steward, an accomplishment he was very proud of. Moe was an avid fisherman, enjoyed buying and selling antiques, was a huge Bruins fan, and looked forward to the yearly family camping trips. Moe will be remembered for being quick with his classic one-liners, a loudmouth to the refs and umpires on the sidelines of his girls’ sporting events, and most importantly his passion for his family. As a father of five girls he was protective by nature, was endlessly generous, kind, and dedicated, and was the proudest of Papas.
He is survived by his loving wife Susan Howland, his children Jennifer and Eben Noyes, Kym Prive and Ryan Gagnon, Shannon and Joseph Bates, Catrina and Ryan Horne, and Marissa and Keith Champagne. He leaves behind 16 grandchildren: Brooklyn, Breeah, Olivia, Aria, Camden, Bonita, Madelynn, Malorie, Mackenzie, Malcolm, Zachary, Parker, Carli, Brantley, Mavis, and Maurice. He also leaves behind his siblings Betty Durden, Tina Davey, Oscar Howland, Roy Howland, and Holly McIntyre, sisters-in-law Kathy Howie, Rose Smith, and Pamela York along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Moe is proceeded in death by his parents Roy and Gloria Howland, mother and father-in-law Alan and Anna Smith, brothers-in-law Mike Durden, Jeff Smith, Mitchel Davey, and Andy McIntyre, nephew Roy Eagan and son-in-law Jesse Royal.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Omni Mt. Washington Hotel’s Presidential ballroom from 2-4 p.m. The family of Maurice Howland would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the hotel for this generous and thoughtful act.
