Leon Arazny Obituary

Leon John Arazny (Leo) just celebrated his 72 nd birthday. Currently he lived in Sugar Hill. He passed away on Monday, July 6 th at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster.

He was born in 1954 in Jamaica, NY. His parents were Frank and Anna (Ploszaj). He attended St. Stanislaus B&M school in Ozone Park, NY, Cathedral Preparatory School in Elmhurst and continued on to study at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

In 1977 he began working as a Bus Operator for NY City Transit and later took the promotional exam to become a Train Operator. For a period of time was a Train Surface Supervisor. He returned to his former position as a Train Operator and remained in that position until his retirement in 2012. He worked for NYC Transit for 34 ½ years. Leon met his wife Alice (Mueller) in 1977, and they married in October 1983. They lived on Long Island until retirement to NH. Leon had a good sense of humor and prided himself on his memory of jokes (and many other things). He would say his daily goal was to make 2 people smile or laugh and most days, he succeeded. Sometimes he’d tell an old story or joke to a group of friends and his longtime friend, Bob would just say “It’s the Cicada factor”. He loved to cook and quoted by his sister " his love of cooking and baking for family, friends, and the world".

Leon is survived by his wife Alice (Mueller) of 42 years; his sister Anne Gawronski (Edward); Nephew Dr. Brian Gawronski, Niece Dr. Lisa G. Johnson (Andrew), Grand-Nephew Griffin Johnson; his Aunt Jeanne Pupa, many cousins and numerous friends. Leon is also survived by his Service Dog Maverick and pet parrots, Gigi and Coco. He is predeceased by his father, Frank (1988), his mother Anna (2001), His Uncle and Godfather Harry in 1999, his Aunt and Godmother Helen in 2005. He was also predeceased by his beloved African Gray parrot, Shadow..
