Lawrence E Hlavna (80)passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his side on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the Dartmouth Medical Centers’ John Byrne palliative Care and Hospice Center. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a proud benefactor member of the NRA. He was an extremely talented, skilled gunsmith, known to all as Larry, the Gunsmith at Hlavna & Co. He was an avid outdoors man, who enjoyed weekend drives with his best friend Sam, spending time with his family, hunting pheasants with his Bro, trap shooting, along with reminiscing and story telling with his many friends and neighbors . He retired from Sikorsky in 2004. He lived his retirement at his home in Bethlehem New Hampshire, overlooking the mountains from his front porch in the North Country he so lovingly called home. He was affectionately known as the man of the mountain, whose wisdom, kindness, knowledge, generosity and spunk for life was known to all who knew and loved him. He had a zest for life, a sweet nature and the most meticulous workshop you have ever seen. His love and respect for firearms was a passion of his for a very long time. He was a very skilled gunsmith and had many laughs with his friends who came to visit him at the shop. He liked to go shooting, make custom rifles, and repair antique firearms. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his loving wife Patricia Chervenak Hlavna, and his parents Frank & Sophie (Vitko) Hlavna of Buffalo New York, and his Sister Karen (Hlavna) Bauman.
He is the loving Father to Michael Hlavna, Matthew (Tara) Hlavna, and Patrick (Michele) Hlavna. He leaves his sister in law Barbara Torvend and his (bro) Gene Torvend. Although known by many names, some of his favorite people called him , Papa, Grampa, Pop and Dad. He was a loving grandfather to Nathan, Megan, Joshua & Paige Hlavna.
A friends and family gathering will take place at the Ross Funeral Home, on Saturday, April 29, from 1-2 PM with a Celebration of life at 2:00 PM, with Reverend Lyn Winter Officiating.
