Kathe Hofmann Obituary

Bethlehem, Kathe Stirnemann Hofmann, 75, passed away on September 23, 2022, at her home. She was born on December 4, 1946, in Buchs, Switzerland to the late Alwin Stirnemann and Marta Werder Stirnemann. From Switzerland, Kathe and her husband, Victor, of 50 years traveled to Canada for Victor’s employment in hotel management and were married there. After living in Canada, South Africa & five different US states, Kathe & Victor purchased The Wayside Inn in 1985 which they owned and operated for 32 years. She truly enjoyed her career as an innkeeper, forging bonds with the many families that made the Inn a part of their lives. She most enjoyed listening to the guests’ stories and could often be found with guests at the puzzle table staying up late into the morning to finish the latest masterpiece. Kathe was a talented quilter; she enjoyed her time with the local quilt group and for many years they put on an annual quilt show at The Wayside Inn. Her true passion of gardening could be seen throughout the Inn’s beautiful grounds. Kathe’s compassion and kindness extended to animals as she was known for taking in the stray cat or dog, she loved animals of all kinds.

In addition to Victor, Kathe is survived by her beloved children, son, Christian of Bethlehem; daughter, Simone and partner James Dwyer of Buzzards Bay, MA; her siblings, Margrit (Stirnemann) Meier of South Africa; Hans Stirnemann & Alwin Stirnemann both of Switzerland, their spouses and many nieces and nephews.
