Judith A Baker, 80, died peacefully at Littleton Regional Hospital, Littleton, NH, on February 25, surrounded by family. She was born In Greenville, Maine, August 26, 1941, to Carleton and Eleanor Baker of Shirley. A lifelong resident of Shirley, she graduated from Greenville High School in 1958, and from the then Washington State Teacher’s College - now the University of Maine Machias - in 1962 with a degree in elementary education. She taught in the SAD #4 school district for 38 years, and in so doing, taught 2 and in some instances 3 generations of students. In retirement, she served for several years as treasurer for the Town of Shirley, and she devoted a great deal of her time to her home parish of Holy Family, serving as Lector and Altar Server, as well as heading up many a church supper.
In her spare time, she was a fantastic cook and enjoyed trying out new recipes. She was an avid shopper and finding beautiful, unique, handmade items pleased her most, so much the better if they sparkled. She loved traveling and explored a fair amount of this country and much of Europe. Most of all, though, she loved nothing better than spending time with family and friends. Whether big family get-togethers, playing cards, dances, vacations, making wreaths, or Sunday brunch, Judy loved a good party and could be counted on to bring something yummy. She was a good mom and an even better grandmother. We are grateful to have had the time we did with her, and that her passing was relatively quick and peaceful.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Morrison in Whitefield, NH for all of the extra time and attention given to Judy during her brief stay, and especially thank the staff at Littleton Regional Hospital for their outstanding level of compassionate care, it was truly a comfort to us.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Debi Baker of Shirley, her daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Tim Burnell of Franconia, her 3 grandchildren, Nicholas, Grace, and Danny, and several cousins throughout the state.
The services for Judith have been postponed and will take place this summer, at which time, at Judy’s request, there will be a grand celebration of her life.
