Frank died on September 5, 2024 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a month’s long battle fighting the toxic effects of the heart mediation, Amiodrone. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 57 years, daughters, grandchildren and “son.”
Francis Joseph Dunn, Jr., “Frank”, of Littleton, NH, Age 80 was born in Stoneham, MA on February 23, 1944 to the late Francis Joseph, Sr. and Ellen Agnes (Flynn) Dunn. He had an older brother, the late Robert Dunn and older sister, the late Miriam (Dunn) Quinn. Frank is predeceased by a daughter, Emily Elizabethe Dunn. Frank graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1962 and from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1967. He did graduate work at the Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. Frank had a 50-year career as a Hospital Pharmacist where he was the director of Pharmacy for both Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA and Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH. He was beloved by his staff and respected by Doctors, Nurses and Hospital Administrators. Frank was an active member and contributing leader for the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists. He also served on the Ethics Committee and Hospice teams for both Emerson Hospital and Cottage Hospital. He served on the Town Board of Health in Stoneham, MA.
Frank was a 4 th degree of the Knights of Columbus. He was also an Associate Member of the Daughter’s of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus from 1997 to the time of his death. He and his wife happily volunteered for the Meals on Wheels through the Littleton Senior Center. He was a man who loved his God and was an active member of the St Rose of Lima Parish Catholic Church. At St. Rose of Lima Parish, he served communion, sang in the church choir, and helped out in the Religious Education program while his grandchildren participated. Frank loved going to train shows with his grandson, Jacob Holt and maintaining the house and pool with grandson, Collin D’Orazio. He loved to travel extensively with his wife abroad and across the USA with his wife, but was happiest when surrounded by multi generations of his family.
Frank and Sue Ellen (Lanza) Dunn lived two streets apart in Stoneham, MA since birth. They were playmates by the age of 5 and best friends throughout their lives. They began dating in March 1964 and were married on September 2, 1967. They lovingly raised three daughters who were the center of their lives, Jennifer Anne Holt, the late Emily Elizabeth Dunn and Gina Maria Gummere. He delighted in the adventures and lives of his six grandchildren and two step-grandsons: Emily and Sarah Nelson, Jessica Holt, Jacob Holt, Angela D’Orazio, Isabella D’Orazio, Collin D’Orazio, Dimitri and Attikis Gummere. Frank joyfully attended his daughters and grandchildren’s various activities over the years. He cheered for Angela D’Orazio at her field hockey and ski races while frequently playing the song “Not Bad for a Girl” at the conclusion of ski races.
Frank delighted in his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was known to them as being “the fun uncle.” Frank loved and believed in his son-in-law, Paul Gummere and truly thought of Paul as the son he never had. A week before he passed away, Frank asked Paul to take over the care of his wife, daughters, grandchildren and home when the time came. He died in peace knowing Paul would proudly become head of his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 10, 12PM, at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Littleton, with Father Ryan Amazeen officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.
