Eva Elgosin Obituary

Eva Theresa Faddoul Elgosin passed away peacefully on November 20th at the age of 100. She was born to Lahoud and Suzan (Raad) Faddoul in the village of Brisset, Lebanon on August 15th, 1921. Brisset was located on what is referred to as holy Mount Lebanon with the Cedars of Lebanon located the peak. She attended school at the time France oversaw the country and her education was in French. Although she was raised speaking Arabic, she maintained her French accent throughout her life. Many in her family lived long lives with her father passing at the age of 102 and her mother at 90.

Eva immigrated with a brother to the US in 1948. Through family, she met and married Charles Elgosin of Whitefield where she lived the rest of her life in their home. Charlie’s family owned the Elgosin Market on Kings Square for many years. To support the family after Charlie passed away in 1966, Eva worked as a lunch lady at Whitefield Elementary School, a cafeteria worker at Franconia College, and then long employment followed at the Spalding Inn Club as a waitress. Once her children were on their own, she traveled for 10 years to Florida to waitress in various hotels in the winter.

Eva’s true place was in the kitchen where she loved to cook and share Lebanese dishes with family and friends. Baked kibbe, taboulli and hummus were carried by many on their trips home. Her Catholic faith always remained at the core of her life and she was an active member of St Matthew’s Church and the Catholic Women’s Group.

Eva is survived by her son Joseph Elgosin of Whitefield, daughter Denise St Jean and husband Marc of Mansfield, MA, grandson Alex St Jean, granddaughter Michaela St Jean and her fiancé Ben Eldridge. She was predeceased by her seven brothers and sisters and her son Anthony Elgosin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Nov. 29th at 10:30 a.m. at St Matthews Church in Whitefield followed by burial at St Matthew’s cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to St Matthew’s Catholic Women’s Group with checks made payable to Gate of Heaven Parish CWG and mailed to Joanne Hennessey, 971 Whitefield Rd, Dalton, NH 03598.
