Elisabeth Ann O’Connor passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 15, 2026. Betty, as she was known, was born August 22, 1939, in Saxtons River, VT to parents Nellie and George McElroy. Her family included brothers William, Stephen, Edward and a sister Agnes. She graduated from Bellow Falls High School, Bellows Falls, VT in the class of 1957. She completed studies at Northeastern University to become a registered X-Ray technician. She worked at Orleans County Hospital in Newport, VT, Mesa Lutheran in Mesa, AZ and Northeastern Vermont Regional in St. Johnsbury, VT.
On June 20, 1960, she married Robert O’Connor at St. Edmund of Canterberry Catholic Church in Saxton’s River, VT. Her family is comprised of children, son Patrick and wife Sarah (Warner), daughters Cathlin O’Connor, and Erin O’Connor. Grandchildren: Caitlin O’Connor, Julia O’Connor, Patrick O’Connor, Jacob Clement, Christopher Ness, Lydia O’Connor-Lush and Mattie Redwine. Great grandchildren: Sarah Allsop, Juniper Allsop and family friend Corine Hanscom.
Betty was an accomplished artist in oil, watercolors and pastels. Her many works adorn the walls of all members of the family. She loved traveling with Bob to both foreign and domestic locations. Betty also enjoyed skiing and golf. Her family was her focal point. She was the one everyone went to with their many diverse life problems. An old saying says, “If you have lived well, you will be surrounded by people you loved, and who loved you”, and she was.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 27, 11:00, at St Rose of Lima Church.
