Duane Stetson Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Duane Stetson, 67, who left this world peacefully into the loving arms of his Father and Savior on June 13, 2024, at 1PM, in his Tennessee home surrounded by his loving family. Duane was born on November 9, 1956, in St, Albans, Vermont, to parents Homer and Elizabeth Stetson; and later raised by his stepfather Pete Blouin. He grew up with six siblings: Rosemary, Homer, Rocky, Arthur, April and Angela. Duane and Janette spent many years together fostering children in their Vermont home. It was not always easy, but together they helped bring stability and tender care to many children in otherwise unstable circumstances. Earlier in life, Duane worked as an MP in the US Army, then later as a Correctional Officer at The State of Vermont Corrections. He was deeply appreciated by both his coworkers and the inmates.

Being a head and shoulder bigger than everyone else, Duane was a soft-spoken man, respectful in his demeanor. He wanted others to experience the deepest respect for him, even in the briefest of encounters. He was a proud Vermonter, loving everything culturally Vermont. He loved collecting unique things, guns being among his proudest collection, he also collected ornate steins and tools for woodworking. He had a love for playing the guitar, decorative woodwork, calligraphy, and had an avid appetite for a good fantasy novel. Duane always valued truth, and in 2000 he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He cherished time together with his wife reading the Bible and always seeking deeper and more meaningful understanding. His personal values and character mattered most to him. He deeply cared that the values he lived by would transcend to others, always doing the best he could regardless of the person or circumstance. Duane is pre-deceased by his father, Homer Jr. Stetson, his mother Elizabeth Snide Stetson Blouin, his stepfather Pete Blouin, and his sister Angela Blouin.

Duane is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Janette  Stetson, his two sons Aaron Stetson and Shaun Stetson and wife Tonya: stepson Christopher Colantuono and stepdaughter Emily , and his adopted and most cherished son Micah Stetson. Two grandchildren Drake and Paige Stetson, Siblings- Rosemary Stetson, Homer Stetson III wife Arlene, Rokie Stetson wife Gina, Arthur Blouin wife Cheryl, April Blouin, 15 nieces and nephews. Several Dept. of Corrections co-workers became very close friends as well as their families.

Duane considered himself first and foremost a husband, and the friendship, wisdom, and companionship that it brought will be deeply missed by his wife. He also took great care in his role as a father, and the guidance he offered his children will be deeply missed. Duane’s gentle and kind disposition will be missed by those who knew him. May his memory be a blessing.

A Celebration of Life will take place later. Please check back for a date and time.
