On September 21, 2025 deep in the woods of Vermont next to a beautiful mountain lake, Douglas Lord took his final breaths surrounded by the love of his wife and daughters. Just the way he wanted.
Douglas was born in 1942 in Laconia, NH to Everett and Lillian Lord as the youngest of 5 children. After a move in his early teens, Doug attended Whitefield High School where he played a sport in every season and caddied at the Mountain View Grand Hotel in the summer. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Carol (Pilotte) and 3 lifelong friends, Carl (Ramsdell), David (Pilotte) and Henry (Maxwell). Doug and Carol enjoyed many adventures with these friends and their wives through the years.
In his early twenties Doug began a job as a lineman for the local electric utility, PSNH, in Berlin, NH. After over 40 years, and a multitude of career accomplishments later, he retired from the same company as a Division Manager in Central, NH. Doug was widely admired and respected in his career, as he was in all parts of his life. He was a nature-lover from a young age, hunting and fishing with his father in the streams and mountains of New Hampshire. He loved playing and watching all sports, and was a devoted Boston Bruins fan. He was an avid golfer, and played his last game at the age of 80 with a men’s league. He was the father of 4 daughters, Stephanie, Kimberly, JoAnn and Robin; arguably one of the biggest challenges in any parent’s life, and he excelled in this role to the very end.
Doug was a “do-er” his entire life. There was no project, big or small, that he didn’t tackle himself. He was fun, and smart, and capable, and looked up to as a wealth of information on so many topics. He could be the life of the party but also fix the kitchen sink or build a dock for the boat. In retirement, he rebuilt the family “camp” on Maidstone Lake into a beautiful home with enough room for all of his family to visit and a beautiful library to hold Carol’s books.
Of all his accomplishments in life, Doug’s most precious were the bonds he held with his 4 daughters, his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and most of all, with his wife of 62 years. Doug and Carol built an incredible life together and the beautiful energy of that union spread like sunshine to others around them inviting them in. Doug was a one-of-a-kind, once-in-a-lifetime type of guy, and will forever be missed as a husband, a dad, and the best Beepa a grandchild could ever ask for.
