David J. Starkey

David J. Starkey of Franconia, NH, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. He was 85 years old. The youngest of three children to Joseph and Agnes Starkey of Arlington, MA, he was predeceased by his two older siblings Ann (Norman) Lindsay and George (Sandra) Starkey. David is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Genevieve, and daughters; Colleen (David) Lussier, Lisa (Peter) Young, and Daughter-in-law Jessica Starkey. He was preceded in death by his son, Sean Starkey, in July of 2021. Additionally, he leaves behind his six grandchildren Emma, Benjamin, Paige, Charlotte, Paul and Henry as well as nieces and nephews.

After many years spent in sales throughout New England with Curtis Industries, Sanders Associates and Heat Incorporated, he enjoyed an early retirement at the age of fifty. David spent the last 35 years devoted to spending time with family and dear friends. His favorite recreational activities were skiing and hiking, which brought him to northern NH to enjoy the Granite State’s mountains, trails and ski slopes. He was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic church and served regularly as one of the lectors. His family will always remember his love of the open road and travel. David and Genevieve were fortunate to be able to travel to Europe and Hawaii multiple times as well as many visits to spoil grandchildren whether they were in Virginia, Texas, Massachusetts, or New Hampshire. A cherished tradition was always gathering in New Jersey with family for the 4 th of July. Never one to pass up a celebratory feast, he loved claiming to have a “see food diet” and was always  member of the clean plate club. David was hardworking and gave his time generously to his family. He was also grateful for all of the time his children and their spouses offered to help with his recovery from open heart surgery as well as subsequent and recent illnesses. His presence in the lives of his loved ones will be sorely missed. Rest in peace David, knowing how much your family loves you and appreciates all that you have done for them.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 11, 11:00, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic church, Franconia, with Father Ryan Amazeen officiating. In lieu of flowers, it was David’s request that donations may be made to: Boys Town 14100 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE or boystown.org
