Cynthia "Cindy" Johnson Obituary

Scottsmoor, Florida & Sugar Hill, New Hampshire

Cynthia “Cindy” Lavonne Johnson, passed away on December 12th, 2025, at her beloved mountain cabin in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her close family and loved ones. Cindy was a devoted mother, stepmother, grandmother, partner and friend whose warmth, humor, and generosity touched everyone she knew.

Born in Eureka, California in 1952, Cindy lived a life rooted in love, faith, and resilience. She had a natural ability to make people feel at ease, through her laughter, her stories, or the comfort of
simply being in her presence. Cindy was a beloved and memorable member of the Scottsmoor, Florida, and Franconia, New Hampshire communities, and her homes were always a place where family and friends gathered, laughed, drank, ate, and made wonderful memories. Cindy was deeply devoted to her close-knit family and took immense pride in them.

Cindy is survived by her two amazing children, Sabrina and her husband Mike Hagl of Twin Falls, Idaho; and her son Shane and his wife Lacey Johnson, along with her grand-daughter Kayla and
her husband Kris Wiedmeier, her grandson Austin and wife Chloe Hagl, and her grandson Chase Hagl, and her grand-children, Tristan and wife Courtney Johnson, and Jaden Johnson, and her
four great grand-children, Hayes, Lincoln, and Ripley Weidmeier, and Eloise Hagl. She is also preceded in death by her parents, her father Pete and mother, Archie Pool, and her sisters, Treva Kelley and Connie Gleaton whom she was very close with.

She is survived by her loving partner of more than thirty-five years, Jack Russell.

Cindy was working in hospitality in Kalispell, Montana when she met Jack, a private pilot who flew such dignitaries as the Sheikh of Abu Dhabi, as well as John Travolta. He happened to be flying in and out of Kalispell and was smitten at first sight. Cindy, on the other hand, loved her independence and wasn’t quite ready to give up her quiet mountainside life. Eventually she realized they had more in common than she thought, and together they built a life in Scottsmoor, Florida, where Jack built a home for them on eighty acres near Cape Canaveral.

Their life together was filled with adventure and humor. They had a running joke about Cindy missing the mountains of Montana, so Jack cleared hundreds of palm trees on the property and
piled them high he told her, “There’s your mountain!” For over thirty-five years, they enjoyed traveling the world together, car shows, boating down the “redneck riviera,” seeing the Daytona
500 in person every year, and flying for lunch from their backyard airstrip. They were close enough to the Kennedy Space Center to watch all the Space Shuttle flights take off from their own back yard. They were both lovers of aviation and Cindy even got her pilot’s license and learned to fly a 1948 Cessna 170 that Jack built. Her first solo flight was to Las Vegas, Nevada.

She is survived by her two step-daughters, Lise Russell of Belmont, New Hampshire, and Pamela August Russell of Los Angeles, California.

She is preceded in death by her eldest step-daughter, Cheryl Russell, of Cape Coral, Florida. Cindy is also survived by her three, step grand-children whom she also adored, Jarrad Jzyk and
Jeremie Jzyk of Cape Coral, Florida, and Jamison Jzyk of Port Orange, Florida.

Cindy found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—she loved to read, she loved her true-crime television series, she loved time with her close-knit family, her wonderful friends, sharing
stories, and enjoying the sunshine of her Florida home and the rugged beauty of her Sugar Hill cabin. She will be remembered for her loving and generous heart, her gentle strength, and the
deep bonds she created with her family and everyone around her.

Her presence, love and laughter was a gift and she will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 at 11:00 AM, at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire with the Reverend Lyn Winter officiating.
