Bernice Lakes McClendon, 85, Lincoln, departed her earthly life on Monday, August 24, at her home. She was born July 10, 1941, in Odessa Dale Georgia, the daughter of Arthur Lakes and Ellena Woodard Harris.
She grew up in Greenville, GA, before moving to New Britain, CT. Bernice worked for Elm Hill Nursing Center, Rocky Hill, CT, for 45 years before her retirement. She loved to travel across different cities to watch her grandchildren participate in basketball, football, baseball, and cheerleading. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends. She was pre-deceased by her husband Leon McClendon Sr, a son Leon McClendon Jr, her brothers Sammy Louis Harris, Walter “Buddy” Lakes, Arthur Lakes and Jessie Harris Jr. Four sisters, Geraldine Harris, Patricia Lakes, Christine Mathews and Juanita Parks.
Bernice is survived by two daughters Regina McClendon (Duane Walden, Lincoln, Janet McClendon (Michael A. Daniels Sr.) New Britain, CT, three grandchildren, Juann Javier McClendon, Nicole Marie Riley, Michael Anthony Daniels Jr., and Sarkee Walden, a special young man close to her heart. Great grandchild Semaj Belin, nieces, nephews, and good friends. Honorary family members Monica Johnson, Connie Swain, Tony Spanks, Gwendolyn Bellamy, and furry friends she adored Apollo and Carti.
A friends and family gathering will take place on Friday, September 4, 11AM - 1PM, at the Ross Funeral Home, Littleton, NH.
