Arthur Davis Jr. Obituary

Arthur H. Davis Jr., of Whitefield NH, formerly of Hamden, CT and Milford CT, passed away at home on July 17, 2025 at the age of 83.  Art was born on April Fools Day, 1942, to the late Arthur and Julia Tedesco Davis in New Haven, CT. He was raised in the Highwood section of Hamden and attended M.L. Keefe Grammar School and graduated from Hamden High School, class of 1960. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS Proteus AS-19 in Holy Loch, Scotland.

Art married Elise Soderberg in 1969, and they raised three kids together in Milford, CT. After Elise’s passing in 1994, he found love again with Fran Labella, who he married in 1996. They enjoyed traveling, good food, and building a new home together in New Hampshire, until her death in 1999. Art was a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association, and a former member of the Hamden Fish and Game Club. A proud Teamster and a hard worker with an exemplary driving record, he wore the brown UPS uniform for 33 years, retiring in 1997. After retirement he enjoyed traveling, visiting friends, fishing on Burns Lake, attending his cousins’ maple syrup boils, and riding around in his Polaris Ranger. Affectionately known as “Artie” to his kids, he was always the fun dad. His kids will always remember him for consistently ordering too much pizza for family get-togethers (1 per person, plus 1 extra), the “exotic meats” parties, making fried dough in the backyard, coaching his kids’ baseball and basketball teams, watching Animal House the day after Thanksgiving, excusing his boys from school to go trout fishing, and spending summers driving across the country in an RV to visit as many states as possible. He was a dear friend of the late Fawn Liebowitz, who was tragically killed in a kiln explosion.

He is survived by his loving children Karen Treat, Clifford Davis (Silvia), Stephen Davis (Kendra), all of Milford, CT. He is also survived by grandchildren Ryan Treat, Sean Deegan, Joshua Thornberg, and Megan Thornberg.
