Vincent John Place

January 17, 1931 ~ January 8, 2018 (age 86) 86 Years Old


Vincent “Vin” John Place, 86, of Easton NH, died unexpectedly at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH on January 8, 2018. Vin was born in Providence RI on January 17,1931 to William J. Place and Eleanor L. McBride Place.
Vin joined the military in 1951 serving in the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team.  He served beside his life long friend and fellow ranger Peter Munro during the Korean Conflict under General Westmoreland fighting behind enemy lines. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
He owned and operated several glass businesses in Rhode Island and New Hampshire, and was an emergency scuba diver for the State of Rhode Island. Together with his wife Shirley and their children they built their log cabin home in Gingerbread Village, where they both lived out their lives. He loved his home and family, especially enjoying his grandchildren and their accomplishments. He was a hard-working, determined and sincere man who enjoyed gardening and teaching himself to play the guitar. He loved watching football and was an avid Patriots fan. 
Vin was predeceased by his wife of 37 years Shirley A. (Bushway) Place, his infant son Steven Place, brothers Donald Place and Clement Place, and sisters Marie Tyman, Eleanor Porter and Shirley Paquin.
He is survived by two sisters Eileen DeBiasio and Kathleen Brown, his children Jon Place (Floraine) of Easton, NH, Susan Tomasetti (Lynn) of Manchester, NH, Raymond Place (Jerrilyn) of Northport FL, Peter Place of Easton NH, Karen (Michael) of Frederick MD, Tina Lemire of Littleton NH, and Rick Place (Kariann) of Littleton NH, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends and family will gather at Easton Town Hall, 1060 Easton Valley Rd, Easton, NH on Saturday January 13, 2018 from 1 to 3 PM with a Remberance by Fr. Mark Dollard at 1:30.  Interment with military honors will take place in the spring.
