Ronald Small Obituary

Ronald Small, 84, of Wallace Hill Road, Franconia, died May 28, 2019 at home with his family.

Ron was born in Perth Scotland, the son of Andrew and Catherine Small on the 31st of July, 1934. Before coming to America he served in both the Black Watch and the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment between the years of 1955-1957 seeing action in Cyprus and the Suez Crisis.  After serving her Majesty the Queen he started a heating and plumbing business in Perth and in the 60’s was a champion Scottish Rally driver.

In 1971 he had the good fortune to meet the love of his life, Sally Lyman, in St. Anton, Austria. Together they traveled through Europe and spent the summer teaching water skiing in Greece. In the fall of 1972 he came to America with Sally and on June 9, 1973 they were married. Ron owned and operated Sports & Classic Cars in Littleton until 2000. From 2002-2016 Ron enjoyed working for Garnet Hill and also many years with Team O’Neil Rally School as a winter driving instructor.

Ron lived life to the fullest.  He and Sally loved sailing and cruising in the Caribbean, traveling to Scotland and Belize, going to the Canadian Grand Prix and most of all spending summer days on Birch Island, Lake Winnipesaukee with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Sally, two daughters, Karen Thompson and Clare Edginton; five grandchildren, Tom and Jack Thompson; Lewis, Calan and Katrina Edginton of Scotland; his brother and sister-law Jeff and Rebecca Lyman, of Bellevue, Wash.; two nieces, Elizabeth Lyman-Mahan and her wife Jennifer Lyman-Mahan of Seattle, Wash.; Katherine Lyman Alvarez and her husband Carlos Alvarez, of Katonah, NY, and great nieces and nephews Lalie and Eli Lyman-Mahan; Lucy and Henry Alvarez.

A private celebration of life will be held at his summer camp on Birch Island the end of July.
