Patricia Ann “Patty” Matthews, 69, a long time North Country resident most recently residing at the Morrison Nursing Home Whitefield, NH until her death on January 3, 2019. She was born October 23, 1949 on Long Island, NY, a daughter of John Michael Matthews and Joan Mary (McLaughlin) Matthews
Patty was born with Downs Syndrome but lived an extraordinary life, never defined by a disability. Patty received a full education at St. Coletta School for Exceptional Children thanks to the generosity of her grandparents. She was an avid reader and a gifted crafts-person, dispelling many myths about Downs Syndrome. Her infectious laughter and joyful spirit lit up any room. She sang in church choirs and taught needle-crafts to others. Because she was the oldest of her siblings, she taught each her favorite crafts. Musicals were her passion and she could belt out the scores of her favorite shows by heart. The beach was her favorite place and she loved to spend hours collecting shells and sea glass. Until her last Breath, Patty touched the hearts of all she met.
Patty is predeceased by her parents and a sister Julie Cuthbert, she is survived by four siblings Christopher, Damon, John and Maggie, and five nieces and nephews Barry Matthews, Ian Cuthbert, Abigail Eisner, John Matthews III and Keoni Matthews
Fr. Mark Dollard will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Thursday January 10, 2019 at 11AM. Those who wish may make donations in memory of Patty Matthews to Morrison Nursing Home, Residents Fund, 6 Terrace St. Whitefield, NH 03598.
