Welcome to the memorial page for

Laura B Wotton

January 8, 2018

Laura Gertrude (Bell) Wotton, 75, of Whitefield, NH entered into hospice care at the Morrison Nursing Home on November 14th, 2017 and peacefully passed into the Master’s hand on January 8th, 2018 after a short illness. Born May 3rd, 1942 in Bangor Maine to George Louis and Violet Estell (Jordan) Bell and raised in and around the Frankfort area. Momma loved to share stories about her adventures on Waldo Mountain.

In May 1960 she married Carroll Evan Wotton of New Harbor, Maine. In addition to raising her children she was the first woman hired as a fan assembler at Tuttle and Bailey in New Britain CT. She also worked at The Mount Washington Hotel and Burndy. She raised her children in Connecticut and relocated to Bethlehem, NH in 1983. Family was very important to Laura and she was famous for her adventurous trips to Maine with her grandchildren and friends in tow.

Momma had a love for house shopping, taking “surprise” candid photos, and eating out; Kentucky Fried Chicken, Original Recipe of course was her favorite. We will cherish the memories of picnics by the lake, frog hunting, and naps in the dappled sunshine. Although we will try to forget kissing those frogs we caught with Momma. She was an avid baker and loved to cook, and host family gatherings. When her kids were still living at home Momma made a different baked treat for dessert every night. Apple pies, chocolate mayonnaise cake, fresh bread, biscuits, and whoopee pies were some of the treats that helped round out her family.

Laura is survived by her children, Diana Carrie Murphy and husband Barry of Whitefield NH, Jenny Lee Sostre and husband Nefty from Oakdale CT, Willis Gilbert Wotton and wife Marie of Whitefield NH, Larry Wotton and wife Lesley of Whitefield NH, Andrew D. Wotton and wife Kirsten of East Hartford CT, George Roger Wotton and partner Tia of Littleton NH, her sister Hanna Lee Miller and husband Howard of Palestine, TX. She also leaves 22 grand children and 20 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephew, friends, and loved ones. Laura is predeceased by her parents, husband, and a brother, George Louis Bell Jr. as well as many beloved pets.

The grandest memory we will always hold dear is the singing! Momma would sing from sun up to sun down, singing just for the joy of it. We will miss you and the carnival king. We will always remember to look for the four leaf clover, watch for bunnies at dusk, and never hesitate to call the butter police.
