Joseph John, “Joe,” Evansky passed away suddenly at home on April 25th, 2018. He was born in Phillipsburg, NJ, in 1945. The son of Joseph and Mary Evansky, Joe was drafted and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967. Joe was stationed in Germany which afforded him the opportunity to enjoy the German culture and tour Europe. After his honorable discharge, he attended technical school and worked for Roche Vitamins, Inc. in Belvidere, NJ from 1972 to 2002 as a senior mechanical designer. While he worked for Roche, Joe and his wife Connie enjoyed traveling on many ski trips and scenic vacations through his Roche employment. Joe and his wife lived in Phillipsburg, NJ for 26 years before moving to New Hampshire. Joe served several years on Pohatcong Township’s zoning board of adjustment and was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Alpha, NJ. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion in Alpha, NJ. After retiring in 2002, Joe and his wife moved to New Hampshire, first in Lancaster, NH then in Carroll, NH. Joe worked for Omni Mt. Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, NH from 2002 to 2012, retiring again to travel and enjoy the mountains of New Hampshire. An avid outdoorsman, Joe was happiest sharing his passion for hunting, skiing, fishing, and working around his mountain home.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Connie, of nearly 42 years; his sister, Barbara LeMar, and her husband Roger of Pennsylvania; his brother-in-law James Gabel of Texas, and a niece and nephew in Texas; and many nieces and nephews in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Colorado.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alpha, NJ, at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Joe’s memory to Gate of Heaven Parish Church, 163 Main St., Lancaster, NH, or to a church of your choice.
