Irene Little Obituary

Irene Gladys (Mooney) Little passed away peacefully on Palm Sunday, April 14, 2019, at the age of 102. She was a resident of Lafayette Center, in Franconia, NH.

Irene was born in Littleton, NH, on April 4, 1917, the daughter of Milton and Katherine (Marsh) Mooney. There were five children in the family, Everett Mooney, Hollis “Tom” Mooney, Irene (Mooney) Little, Thelma (Mooney) Spreadbury, and Katherine (Mooney) Emmons. When growing up Irene was a tomboy, she liked to play ball, climb trees, and just enjoy the outdoors. During World War II she and her sisters would go and pick forget-me-not flowers. Then they would go around the neighborhood and sell the flowers, so they could get some money to go to the movies.

Irene graduated from Littleton High School. She worked at Saranac Glove Factory for many years. She was married to her late husband Richard Little. They were married for 46 years. They were self-employed, selling insulation, combination doors, and windows. At the fair, they would set up booths to demonstrate their products. They also sold real estate and owned rental properties.

Irene liked to ride her bicycle, and take long walks with her husband. Irene and Richard liked to go and look for old bottles to dig up, hunting, fishing and golfing. She also enjoyed watching Richard play on a softball team. She loved gardening (both vegetables and flowers), her cats, watching wildlife, and playing Bingo. For the past 12 years, Irene was a resident of Lafayette Center where they all called her Mom. She loved to play Bingo, sing, dance, play cribbage and do all of the actives offered. She liked going on trips that the center had. Irene enjoyed every one (staff and residents) at the center.

She is survived by her, nephew David Spreadbury and wife, Arlene of North Haverhill, NH, niece Diane McFarland and husband, Gary of Bethlehem, NH, and niece Debbie Boynton of Bethlehem, NH; as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Richard Little, parents, her brothers Everett Mooney, Hollis “Tom” Mooney, her sisters Thelma Spreadbury and Katherine Emmons.
