Gilles "Gil" J Girouard

May 15, 1946 ~ June 15, 2016 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Gilles “Gil” Joseph Girouard, age 70 of Littleton, died on June 15, 2016 at Littleton Regional Healthcare surrounded by his loving family after a period of declining health.

Gil was born May 15, 1946 in Coaticock, Quebec, Canada, the first of five children of Philippe and Rita (Dionne) Girouard. When he was 12 years old, the family moved to the United States. They lived in several towns before settling in Littleton in 1960. While a young adult, Gil and his four siblings helped to reestablish the sport of hockey in the Littleton area. As an adult, he was a coach for the Littleton Bobcats as well as a referee when needed. He also helped to maintain the ice rink in the winter as well as having a rink at his own house for his three children and the neighborhood children to practice their hockey and skating skills.

On July 24, 1965 Gil married his high school sweetheart Gail Edson in Littleton, NH. They have resided in Littleton all of their married life and have raised three children together: Michele Marie, Jay Scott and Naomi Gray Girouard.

Gil graduated from Littleton High School in June of 1965. He worked at Connors and Hoffman shoe Factory, Downing’s Garage, several road construction companies: Joy Manufacturing Company, as a service representative, and then with Maine Drilling and Blasting Company, as a driller, from which he retired in 2011 after 20 plus years of service.

Gil was a great family man and friend to all. He enjoyed following NASCAR racing, “Go Joey”, as well as working on, and helping local race-car drivers. Before his illness he could be found in the pits at Riverside Speedway in Groveton as well as White Mountain Motorsports Park in Woodstock. He was a fan of the New England Patriots as well as the Boston Bruins.

Gil is survived by his wife Gail, daughter Michele and fiancé Rob Foster of Monroe, NH, daughter Naomi and partner Ron Vaillancourt of Belmont, NH, daughter-in-law Amy and husband Chuck Crush of Concord, NH, five grandchildren and seven great-grandsons. His brothers Guy and wife Pauline of Hudson, NH; Claude (Joe) and wife Jeannette of Nashua, NH and his sister Diane and husband Ed Richey of Whitefield, NH. Several nieces, nephews, cousins as well as many friends. He leaves his two aunts, Cecile and Maryjane who are both over 100 yrs. of age and living in Canada, and his Aunt Jeanne Girouard of Whitefield, NH.

Gil was predeceased by both parents, his son Jay Scott Girouard in 2008 and his brother Yvon “Peanut” Girouard in 1969.
