Bernard Elton Cady, 87, Littleton, passed away at the Grafton County Nursing Home with his family at his side on Saturday August 11, 2018. He was born on April 21, 1931 in Milford, IA to Maurice G. and Lola E. (Davis) Cady. Elton attended Littleton High School and served as class president for 4 years, graduating with the class of 1949.
Elton went to work for NH Department of Transportation in 1954 where he stayed for 37 years until his retirement on May 1, 1991. He married Margaret Derochers in September of 1967. They were married for 25 years until Margaret’s death in 1992. Elton married Evelyn Sherburn in June of 1994. Elton was the second longest member of Littleton Elks Lodge 1831 with 63 years of membership. He served his community as Supervisor of the Checklist for many years, was a member of and served as President of the LHS Alumni Association, and was a communicant at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and NY Giants, and loved to putt around on his John Deere tractor.
Elton is survived by his wife of 24 years, Evelyn Cady, his daughter Suzanne MacDonald and her husband David, step sons John C. Hening and Scott Hening, granddaughter Allison MacDonald, seven step grandchildren, Ashley, Evan, Madison, Gracey, Callum, Maeve, and Anona, and his faithful companion Jill. He is predeceased by his first wife Margaret Cady, his grandson Cameron MacDonald, a brother Robert Cady, and two sisters Marilyn White, and Joyce Lemieux.
Fr. Mark Dollard will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday August 16, 2018 at 11AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church 82 High St. Littleton followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.
