William S HultgrenApril 8, 1951 ~ February 21, 2017 (age 65)
William Stratton Hultgren, 65, passed away on February 21, 2017 in Franconia, NH. He was born April 8, 1951 in Winchester, Massachusetts to Theodore and Frances (Smith) Hultgren. Bill spent most of his life living and working in Franconia, NH.
Bill loved to make people smile, even at the behest of a delightfully bad joke. He was a phenomenal skier and spent many of his most beloved days working as a Ski Patrolman and U.S. Certified Ski Instructor on Cannon Mountain. In the off-season, he ran and operated Fransted Family Campground, the campground his parents founded in 1961. Bill also shared his father’s love of flying, who served as an Air Force pilot in WW2. Bill shared his love of the mountains, outdoors and everything active with his friends and his children, including coaching Franconia Little League. To this day, his children thank him for teaching them that the “fundamentals” (in every aspect of life) matter.
Bill is survived by his two children, Bess Alden and her husband Jared Alden and his granddaughter, Layla Alden of Truckee, California, and Daniel Hultgren and his wife Constance Hultgren of St. Petersburg, Florida; his siblings, Jeffrey Hultgren, Kristen Lundquist and Leanne Topoloski; several nieces and nephews and their children; his former wife June Rhoda and his life-long friend and blessing, Donna Whitehill.
Bill was diagnosed with Leukemia and subsequently Multiple Myeloma and eventually succumbed to the diseases. However, he never lost his generous nature and was gracious and charming to the end. Bill lives on as a generous and kind, loving father and friend.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at 5:00 p.m., Friday April 7, 2017 at the Notch View Lodge, Cannon Mountain, Franconia, NH. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor Norwalk, CT 06851
