Scott Weldon McKibben, age 64, of Canaan, Vermont, passed away on August 31st, 2016 at the Littleton Regional Hospital surrounded by family and loved ones. Born August 13th, 1952 in Rochester, NY the youngest of three sons of Veda Juanita (Mizell) and Donald McKibben.

Scott graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1975 and quickly discovered a passion for woodworking. He taught the craft, including architectural drafting and technology, to hundreds of students while working at the Canaan Schools from 1982 to 2014. He lived in Helena, MT; Essex, VT; Canaan, NH; Grand Isle, VT and Pittsburg, NH. Scott met his bride, Martha Allen, and they married on March 2nd, 1985. Scott and Martha spent the last 25 years living at their home and farm on Pollard Hill in Canaan, VT and raised two boys there, Cody McKibben and Wyatt McKibben.

Scott designed and built the family home by hand with logs from their land. He immensely enjoyed the outdoors and spent his time sailing, building guitars, canoeing, fishing, skiing, woodworking, reading, camping, and researching his Scottish heritage. Scott adored tending to his orchard and pressing the apples to make Scot’s Pretty Good Cider.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 and ½ years, Martha Allen; along with his two sons, Cody McKibben and Wyatt McKibben; his brothers, Frank McKibben and Ted McKibben; his one niece and four nephews; and many other loving family and friends.

The family is planning an informal celebration of life and potluck gathering at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10th, 2016 at their home on Pollard Hill Road in Canaan, VT.

Driving directions from Canaan, VT town center:

Head south onto VT-102 for 1.1 miles. Turn right on Canaan Hill Road for 2.5 miles. Turn left, over the bridge, onto Claybrook Road for 1.2 miles. Turn right onto Pollard Hill Road for 0.4 miles. Look for a sign for the service and bear left at that fork.
