Ruth Waid

Ruth C. Waid, 86, Dalton, died after a period of failing health on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, while surrounded by family. She was born in Orleans, VT in 1928 one of 9 childeren born to Hubert and Jeannette (Lariviere) Couture. The family moved to Whitefield when she was young and she spent the rest of her life in the area. While working for the Miller family farm in Whitefield she had occasion to meet Wallace Waid who worked at the Chase family farm, the two grew close and married in 1948. Together the couple raised 4 children. Ruth raised the family and kept house until Wallace's death in 1983, at which time she started cleaning local houses and business to help support the family.

 

Ruth liked to stay active. She liked camping, fishing, gardening, berry picking, and just going for a nice walk. She watched and fed the birds, constantly chasing off greedy squirrels and blue jays. She was also active with the Dalton Ladies Aid Club. She is predeceased by her parents and husband, a son, Jonathan, 2 brothers Richard and Hubert “Skip” Couture, 3 sisters, Clair Couture, Jeanette Maxwell, and Lucille Boudle. She is survived by 3 children, Mary Waid of Dalton, Neil Waid and his wife Thaptim of Valrico, FL, and Saraphine Goodwin and her husband Bob of Arlington, MA, 4 grandchildren, Simon, Dalton, Jason, and Wipa, and 2 great-grandchildren, Erica and Paul, a brother Ralph Couture, Westerly RI, 2 sisters, Clemence Sigmon of Winston-Salem, NC, and Edna Fitzgibbons of Pawcatuck, CT, several nieces, nephews and close friends.

 

Fr. Matthew Mason will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 27, at 11AM at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Jefferson Rd. Whitefield, NH. Interment will take place in the spring. Those who wish may make donations in Ruth's memory to Morrison Nursing Home, Resident's Fund, 6 Terrace St. Whitefield, NH 03598.
