Joyce...I didn't get to know Bob very well and now I'm sorry I didn't. We never know the time limits we will have. The little time I did spend with you two I know he was a good man.
Be well and know that I think of you often.

Joyce and family,

So sad to read the news that Bob passed away. He was a wonderful and dedicated man. Have fond memories of the laughter, time, and work he did for the nursing home. He always took time to speak with me, even with his busy schedule. I'm sure Sherman will miss him greatly as well. Thoughts and prayers are with you today and always.

As I read the condolences and tributes to Colonel Bob Freund the themes are constant. He was a true professional, mild mannered, sincere, caring and always concerned for your well-being. And he did this always without ever losing sight of the mission. My first encounter with Bob was in 1978. the Army had decided to relocate B Med from Hingham to Lawrence. There was just a handful of us from Hingham that would remain with B Med. Once we arrived Bob welcomed us with open arms. I was fortunate to work with him during my career. He set the bar high for all of us. I will remain forever grateful for his friendship and camaraderie. RIP.

Bob was both a tremendous soldier and leader, and a wonderful and caring person. He was a very close personal friend who always made me feel as though we had a special bond. I know many other friends of Bob's who felt the same way. And it was true - Bob did have very special personal relationships with his friends and colleagues because his friendship was sincere and caring, and his desire to help bring out the best in everyone was ingrained in his being. The Army and county have lost a great soldier; we have all lost a dear mentor, colleague, and friend. RIP, Bob.

Very sad to hear of Bob’s passing. He was the epitome of what an officer should look like and how an officer should act. All his subordinate officers looked up to him for his leadership skills and his friendship. We missed him dearly when he retired from the USAR and we will miss him in his passing from this earth. Duty..Honor..Country symbolized who he was and always will be. Mission Complete Soldier and Rest in Peace my friend
