Paul and I both walked the streets of Lincoln for many years. We never passed up the opportunity to stop and talk. Usually about his "adventures" at Burndy, sometimes about the frustrations of home ownership. I never got tired of listening to his stories. Though we only knew one another from the street, he was a best friend, one of the nicest people I have ever known. I didn't know he had died until I saw in the Littleton Courier that his house has been sold by the estate. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Jackie, I'm so sorry for your loss. That cemetery is beautiful my brother-in-law and his son are buried there and the ashes of his other son were flown home last week to be buried there too. So I know what you are going through. Sometimes I wonder when it's suppose to get easier as my mother used to say God will make the pain go away. I lost four of my five siblings and still miss them as much today as I did when I lost them. Just remember how much you loved each other that's all I do and it does help.

I'm sorry to learn of Paul's passing. He and I go back to elementary school at St. Joe's where we were both members of the choir. I recall that Paul had always been into gadgets, and the best tale I can relate is as follows:

Choir Practice at St. Joseph School
Spring 1960

Paul had a special Mattel derringer that was part of the belt buckle with which it had come. The gun would be activated by pushing out one’s abdomen. The derringer would swivel out and fire off one round of a Greenie Stickem Cap bullet. This was a toy cap gun, very realistic, but still just a toy.

It was at the end of choir practice. Father Osgood had just told us it had gone well and we could return to class. Just as he had said this, Paul leaned back in his chair to stretch, but as he did so, that Mattel derringer swung into action, firing a round which parted Osgood’s hair and ricocheted off the black board behind him. Everyone laughed, even Fr. Osgood. If this had happened today, Paul would have likely been expelled and arraigned on terrorism charges.

I hope this helped to take off the edge.

I.m so sorry to read about Paul.s passing. Paul and my brother were good friends during high school, I, being a year younger, was able to be around their friendship and got to know Paul. My brother Mark Cardin passed away a few years ago and I remember their friendship well and enjoyed spending time with both. Paul was always very kind to me, his good friend's younger brother. My deepest sympathy to Jackie and family members. Russell Cardin
