L. Ashley (Lou) Robinson

L. Ashley (Lou) Robinson, 88, Bethlehem, NH, passed away in Littleton Regional Healthcare on May 1, 2017 due to complications from pneumonia.

He was born in Bronxville, New York on August 28, 1928 to Leland Rex and Helen Ball Robinson. He graduated from Bronxville High School and Occidental College in Los Angeles California. He attended Columbia Law School where he was selected as a member of The Columbia Law Review. Lou started his career at White and Case law firm in New York City and then became a partner in the firm of Burlingham, Underwood and Lord which specialized in maritime law also in New York City.

Lou had lived the first 67 years of his life In Bronxville where he served as a Trustee of the Village of Bronxville and a Governor at the Bronxville Field Club. He moved with his wife to Jefferson, New Hampshire and wintered in the San Francisco, California area after retirement.

He was an avid sports fan of baseball, football, tennis and golf. He also was an excellent tennis, platform tennis and squash player. He met his wife, Yvonne, when they were partners in a platform tennis tournament in Scarsdale, New York. He loved playing bridge and also loved music especially his beloved Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and other classical music and Broadway show tunes.

Lou was a wonderful host and loved having old time New York friends visit and enjoyed all his new New Hampshire friends who he entertained in his home with Yvonne.

He was first married to Nancy Brooks Robinson who passed away unexpectedly in 1971. He is survived by his wife Yvonne, and his children Gary and his wife Deborah Hoffert Robinson of Bangor Maine, and his daughter Susan Robinson and her husband George Leibowitz from Shelburne, Vermont. He is also survived by his four grandsons, Isaac and Noah Robinson and Eathan and Ahron Leibowitz, and two step-daughters, Carolyn Crimley and Susan Crimley Gough and her husband Francis, both from Mill Valley, California, two step-grandchildren, Harrison and Katelyn Gough as well as his sister, Sally Harris, of Sonoma, California.

Per his wishes, there will be a memorial gathering held at a later date.
