Eric E Lougee

Eric Edward Lougee, 56, Bethlehem, NH, died unexpectedly on Sunday February 5, 2017 at Baxter State Park in Millinocket, ME. He was born in Littleton, NH on April 20, 1960 to Edward and Rita (Bernard) Lougee. After attending Plymouth High School Eric enlisted in the US Army where he was trained and worked as a German Linguist and Intelligence analyst. While stationed at Fort Carson Colorado he met Lisa Walker. The couple married on December 1, 1983. Eric left active duty in 1987 and transferred to the US Army Reserves. He was called back to active duty from 2004-2005 serving in Iraq. He retired as CW2 in 2006.

Eric was sworn as a patrolman for the Lancaster Police Department in Lancaster, NH in 1988. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and left the department in 1998 to accept a position as Chief of Police in Bethlehem, NH, where he worked until his retirement in 2008. After retirement he obtained his Welding Certificate at White Mountain Community College

Eric was an avid outdoors-man. He enjoyed Alpine Tour (AT) back-country skiing, hiking, alpine skiing, hunting, kayaking, mountain-biking, ice climbing, rock climbing, dirt biking, paddle boarding, fishing and target shooting. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, was a skilled welder, and talented guitar player and songwriter. Eric built his family’s home in Bethlehem, climbed all New Hampshire’s 4000 footers, had a private pilot license and enjoyed recreational flying. Eric volunteered annually at the Prouty Bike Race to benefit the Norris Cotton Cancer Center. He was a former member of the Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue (AVSAR), a Ham Radio Operator with the Littleton Amateur Radio Klub (LARK) and recently started to work on achievements with Summits On The Air (SOTA). He was a member of the NRA.

Eric was very generous with a caring heart and a naturally nurturing personality. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him, he could light up any room. He also had a very great sense of humor with original jokes and a contagious laugh. He loved all animals and bird watching. He was very adventurous and brave. He loved the outdoors and his family. He always had a calm and mellow demeanor and could handle any situation with poise. He was a natural born leader and a great teacher.

Eric spent many weekends at the Forks, ME camping and kayaking the Dead River and the Kennebec River. He shared his passion and knowledge of kayaking with his wife, daughter and grandson.

Eric is survived by his loving wife Lisa Lougee, their wonderful daughter, and only child Holly Rexellen Lougee, grandson Joshua James Goyette who was his pride and joy, all residing in Bethlehem, NH, his mother Rita Bernard of NY, a sister Linda Lougee of CT, a half-brother Ryan Lougee of CO, his dog and great companion Bandit. He is predeceased by his father Edward Lougee, and a cousin, Michelle MacKay.

There will be a memorial service at Ross Funeral Home, 282 West Main St. Littleton, NH, on Friday February 10, 2017 at 2PM followed by a Celebration of Eric’s Life at VFW Post 816, 600 Cottage St. Littleton, NH. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue (AVSAR) 75 Lancaster Rd, Gorham, NH 03581.
