Benton (Ben) Robert Lyons, Jr., 85, of Littleton, NH died peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield, NH. Ben was born on May 25, 1931 in Littleton, NH and was the son of the late Benton and Clara (Peters) Lyons. He attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and Bethlehem Elementary and High School.
Ben was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, achieving the rank of Staff Sgt. and earning the awards of Distinguished Unit Citation, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal with four Stars, United Nation Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. Ben was a retired employee of the U.S. Forest Service, New Hampshire Dept. of Resources and Economic Development. Ben enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, a member of The Knights of Columbus, The American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia (Sidney) Lyons of Littleton, NH, his children Benton R. Lyons, III (Jennifer), Michael J. Lyons, Kathleen A. Stone, Christopher E. Lyons (Suzanne), Ann M. Lyons,Sarah E. Hopkins (Chris), David S. Lyons (Jeannette), Matthew P. Lyons (Denise), and Rhoda Delafontaine, as well as 21 grandchildrenand four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Carroll "Bud" Lyons (Roberta), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Benton and Clara (Peters) Lyons, and infant daughter, Laurie Sue Lyons, and a sister Marilyn Boucher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, 77 Clay St. Littleton, NH, on Tuesday January 31, 2017 at 11AM with interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery to follow. Those who wish may make a donation to the charity of one’s choice in lieu of flowers.
